More rants from the Ferry Vault

From 2006 - Staten Island Ferry

Today there is an article about a new cell phone audio tour of the island. This line caught my attention.

Quoted from the Advance a few years ago: "Imagine a ride on the Staten Island Ferry where jaded commuters go out to the ferry decks and curious tourists disembark to explore -- Island-side. "

The jaded commuters is on the mark. But curious tourists, no that is not what we jaded commuters call them.

Let's just say this. I sit on the non-Statue of Liberty side of the boat to avoid the "curious" people. A few months ago someone asked me if they were on the right side of the boat to see the statue and I said no. She said "Are you sure?" No lady, I'm not, but I am annoyed now. There are two sides of the boat and I have been riding it for over 30 years. I managed to not only figure out which side the huge green statue in the middle of the water is, but I usually remember from trip to trip.
