- I am Staten Island is launched in an effort to stop hate crimes plaguing the Island in recent months.
Don't forget: August is Beach Month- there is no need to go to New Jersey, Brooklyn or Long Island for the Beach. We have our own beaches right here on Staten Island including, the public beaches at Midland Beach, South Beach and Wolfe's Pond Beach.
There is a small beach front near the Alice Austin House in Rosebank. You can pick up the bike trail near Fort Wadsworth and take it all the way along the shore.
The pier at Lemon Creek is beautiful and serene.
You can even take your dog to the small section behind Miller Field in New Dorp. When you enter the beach, remember to go to your right. Dogs have to be leashed and are not allowed on the other sections.
Now a lot of people think our beaches are totally polluted or not just not clean. Truthfully, they are now pretty much the same as Brooklyn and New Jersey. We just have not caught up to them on the Boardwalks yet. Which means, our beaches are still less crowded and quieter.
Jones Beach is a whole other story with their almost white sand, but that is a hike and a lot of traffic.
But is you just need to refresh and get near the water, or want to sit on the sand, going somewhere else is a waste of tolls and gas. Plus, we have fishing piers, picnic areas, bike paths, parks, sports fields and free parking. You can't go wrong.
We are an island, why should we leave to go to the water?????
