The Staten Island Region AACA will be hosting it's 34th Annual Car Show & Flea Market at the College of Staten Island on Sunday, September 19, 2010 (rain date October 3).
Each year, SIRAACA donates monies raised throughout the season to various local and national charities. This year, they have chosen Staten Island Project Homefront as their show's partner. The two charities hope that everyone in attendance brings along items suitable for shipping to our servicemen and women deployed overseas, such as travel-sized toiletries, DVD's, powdered drink mixes and snacks. With over 500 vehicles expected and thousands of spectators on hand, the collection bins should be overflowing.
The show features a formal gathering of antiques, classics, muscle cars, hot rods and customs, defined by class or year. There is no cut-off year for vehicle entry, yet all cars newer than 1995 are for display only. All others are judged on a point system that results in multiple awards in each class. The club expects to hand out nearly 300 trophies, including four Best of Show awards and a President's Cup. Newly added this year is the Children's Choice Award, voted on by kids in attendance.
The show also includes a flea market, food, music, 50/50 drawings, and this year's raffle car. For 2010, the Staten Island Region will be giving away a fully restored 1988 Mustang GT convertible. Tickets are $1.00 each or $5.00 for a book of seven.
Car registration on the day of the show is $20.00, beginning at 8:00 AM. Flea market vendors can register for $40.00 per spot beginning at 7:00 AM. The spectator gates also open at 8:00 AM, where it's $5.00 for adults and $1.00 for seniors and children under 12 years of age.
According to club president Paul Arena, several New York City departments will participate by exhibiting their historical vehicles. Expected this year is the FDNY's Ford Model T chief's car, the Mayor's Office Imperial parade car, and the MTA's 1931 Yellow Coach double-decker bus. Appearances by other local community organizations, such as the Boy Scouts, round out the event.
