Tennis Anyone?

Before the Staten Island Yankees played in St. George, the same land was used for other sports.

How are the Outerbridge Crossing and “Staten Island Cricket and Baseball Club” connected to Tennis?

Mary Ewing Outerbridge brought modern day tennis to the America in 1874, calling it American Lawn Tennis. The first game was played for the Staten Island Cricket Club which later became the Staten Island Cricket and Baseball Club. It was played in the St. George Flatlands which is now home to the Staten Island Yankees.

The Outerbridge Crossing is named after her brother Eugenius Harvey Outerbridge.

The bridge name added the word Crossing, since the family name already had the word 'bridge' in it.

  2. There are so many millions of people who play tennis everyday throughout the world. They play in public parks, country clubs, private tennis courts, and anything in between (i.e. against a wall). sport related

  3. Anyone who wants to learn how to play tennis should concentrate on mastering the 5 elements of controlling a tennis ball. This will result in the ability to vary your shots according to any situation. Hitting with great power is fun, but ball control is much more important. Naomi Osaka coach
