Happenings at the SI Zoo

BREAKFAST WITH THE BEASTS – All dates meet 8:30-10:00am

One of Staten Island Zoo’s most loved programs.  Join us for a tour of our animal kitchen, help prepare some food for critters and watch them eat.  Meet some animals close up and have a breakfast snack while you are here.

Children ages 5 and up – please no younger siblings.  A paying adult must accompany a paying child.

DINOSAURS AND MORE - 1:30-3:30pm*

Join dinosaur enthusiast, Richie Mirissis, as he presents some amazing fossils, three- dimensional models, and memorabilia from his vast collection.  Make a clay fossil mold with the help of our knowledgeable volunteers.

April:

EGGSTRAVAGANZA – Sun., April 10th (12:00 - 3:00pm- Event Time)
We will explore the world of eggs from the Easter variety to those made by frogs, turtles, bugs and many others.  Join us for some “eggy” activities and make a craft egg to take home.
Program Free with regular Zoo admission.
Want to help hunt for eggs?  There will be age appropriate egg hunts scheduled throughout the afternoon for an additional fee. There will be one grand prize egg for each age category. 
Egg Hunt Fee $5.00/child – Participants limited for safety reasons
Registration for all Egg Hunts 10:00-12:30 ONLY on the day of the event.

SPRING ZOO CAMP- Tues. , April 19th through Thurs. April 21st (10:00am - 2:00pm)  PreK through 3rd grade

The zoo will put the “spring” back into vacation with a summer camp session in April!  Spend the day touring the zoo, meeting animals, playing games and much more!  Registration is limited.
Each Day:  Members: $35 / Non-Members: $50

EARTH DAY – Sat., April 23 (1:00am – 4:00pm)*
Celebrate the Earth with the Staten Island Zoo. If you are interested in plants and gardening, then join the Zoo’s Botanist for a tour.  Learn about the various plant species we have here on the Zoo grounds.  Stop by an Education Station and learn about composting and how you can do it in your own home!  We will also have crafts, activities, and animal encounters available for children.

MOTHER’S DAY - Sun. May 8 (10:00am - 4:45pm)

Mom’s are free with a paid child. 

SUMMER RECRUITMENT DAY - Sat., May 14 (10:00pm)
Have you ever wanted to work with a pig, sheep or a goat?  If so, we could use your help with the Children’s Center. Help the zoo clean and feed the barn yard animals.  Or
Do you like working with children?  Do you like playing games, making crafts, and looking at the zoo animals?  If so, we could use your help with summer camp.
Come and find out what it is all about! Must be at least 14 years old for children center volunteer or finishing 10th grade for camp volunteer.


ADOPT-A-SOLDIER DAY – Sat. May 21 (12:00 - 4:00pm)*
The zoo is celebrating Armed Forces Day by accepting donations for soldiers.  Donations of toiletries, snacks, stationary, recreation/entertainment items and most important, letters of encouragement will be accepted.  Please call the Zoo, or see the Zoo’s website, for a complete list of supplies for soldiers.
Does your child (at least 14 years) need Community Service?  If they do, please call to register your child to help pack the soldiers’ items.
Free with regular Zoo admission - $1.00 will be taken off price of admission if making a donation and visiting the zoo.
Drop-off items will also be accepted.


GONE FISHING – Sun., May 1 thru Sun., June 5 (see specific dates) – 10:00-11:30am
Remember how nice it was to fish on those lazy days of summer?  This series of classes is a primer on fishing in Staten Island .  Step-by-step you will learn about our local fish, the art of fishing, the places to fish legally and local fishing laws.  This series will culminate with a fishing trip to one of the local parks.
Purchasing fishing equipment will the responsibility of the participants.
This program is geared to 6 and older accompanied by an adult.

CONSERVATION CELEBRATION– Sun., May 22 (10:30am - 3:30pm)*

Celebrate Conservation with the Zoo!  There will be zookeeper talks, environmental programs, displays, face painting, crafts and all sorts of fun. Find out about the animals that need your help.  Not only the animals from the rainforest, coral reef, or polar caps, but animals right here in NY Come and meet local environmental organizations and learn what you can do to keep our planet healthy while having a fair of a time.

June:

FATHER’S DAY – Sun., June 19 (10:00am - 4:45pm)

Dad’s are free with a paid child.

ENRICHMENT DAY – Sat., June 25 (10:30am – 3:30pm)*
Do you ever wonder what the animals do all day long at the zoo?  Come to the Staten Island Zoo and watch your favorite animal get their favorite toy.  You will be able to see these magnificent animals use there natural instincts and curiosities.  Special animal encounters, keeper talks, and crafts for the children.
Free with zoo admission.
